A Thought About Sportsmanship

Ok, so I am not all knowegable in on the rules of sports, I have really never sat down and watched an entire football game, and I probably never will. However, I am aware of what sportsmenship is, and the lack of it that this foot ball player displayed during a game exudes a level of unintelligence that is unimaginable. I often ask myself, why do many smart and intelligent people regularly hold atheles in high esteem?
Ok, so I am not all knowledgeable in on the rules of sports, I have really never sat down and watched an entire football game, and I probably never will. However, I am aware of what sportsmanship is, and the lack of it that this football player displayed during a game exudes a level of unintelligence that is unimaginable. I often ask myself, why do many smart and intelligent people regularly hold athletes in high esteem?

As a boy I grew up reading books, watching movies, and writing stories. I was never suited for athletics, nor did I feel an inclination to participate in such activities. To this day I have never looked back and regretted not learning how to tackle a person or how to steal second base. When I heard sports related gossip, it usually was from the news media; most times it consisted of new players being signed for an exorbitant amount of money.

I always thought that a baseball or football player worshiped the game; his salary never mattered as long as he could play. However this optimistic outlook on sports is not true. I have no doubt that if sports figures were to switch salaries, for a day, with teacher, they would not play. In contrast, teachers, doctors, and scientists, nurture young minds, heal the sick, and create with a passion for humanity; a passion that many athletes give up when they become hoards for advertising dollars.

There have been times when I have laid awake at night and imagined a world where teachers, scientists, and doctors are honored and revered as much as the athletes of today. Imagine a world in which children look up and admire the true heroes of the world. There needs to be a change in which society places its values and ethics. Nonetheless, it is up to the general public to spur a movement of admiring those who truly make a difference in the world. All it takes is a commitment to oneself to not participate by buying a ticket.

Love is a Many Splendored Thing

In all its forms and shapes, love is cherished and nurtured. Many people say that marriage is equal to love; if two people love each other, then marriage is the next logical step. However, in today' society, millions of Americans that love each other can not share in the bond that marriage produces.

As a straight man, it is hard to comprehend the bleakness and despair that the absence of any idea of marriage might bring to the minds of two people in love. A society is only as strong as its toleration for its citizens, however each individual needs to be tolerant and accepting of the other. People need to delve into their own hearts and ask one simple question, "what are the limits of loves boundaries".

Love is a many splendored thing. To deny people, based on sexuality, the pleasure and trust that marriage can bring to couples is tantamount to denying them love. If marriage is a symbol of love then what is the absence of marriage?

Five Things that Should Happen Throughout the World

  • People throughout the world must put their religious differences to the side, and focus on what humanity has in common.

  • The wellfare of a fellow human being should be put above all else. Homelessness should not be an issue for millions of world citizens.

  • People throughout the world need to come together to discuss isuess of global warming, renewable energy source, and non-nuclear proliferation.

  • Hate, based on a persons religious beliefs, skin color, or sexuallity, should not be tolerated; people who speak of such things should be shunned in the world community.

  • The leader of the free world should be a beacon for peace and progressive change. The democratic ideals of the free world should be looked upon as a goal to strive towards.

Thoughts for the Day After Thanksgiving

Like most people, the day of Thanksgiving, I rummage through the paper and sift out the daily ads. This has been a ritual ever since I can remember. The next day, my mother and sister run the gauntlet of holiday shopping. Alas, millions of Americans follow this example; the day after Thanksgiving is one of the largest shopping days of the year. With the streets clogged with the endless flow of consumerism, our reality is put on pause for one day. The trappings of holiday sales and discounts have muted our senses for one day.

Is the longevity just for one day? It can last an eternity, for people who go about their day without a thought other then their own indulgence. The sales only last for one day, but the slumber of the American consumer is present all year round.

Baby with heart on the outside of His Chest Undergoes Surgery

Naseem Hasni, who was born with a rare medical defect that occurs 5.5 to 7.9 per 1 million births, could go home as early as Christmass. The operation lasted for six hours; firstly, the doctors wrapped his chest in gore-tex; secondly, a layer of his skin was placed over the gore-tex to act as the sac where the heart rests; thirdly, the heart was placed into the chest.

In a few weeks following the surgery, a fitted plastic cover will be created for Naseem to wear over his chest, and in six month, his own ribs will be grafted onto his chest.

    "Very Low Food Security"

The U.S. Department of Agriculture reported that in 2005 nearly 35 million Americans struggled to feed themselves, and nearly 11 million Americans went hungry. The solution, come up with a more harmonious terminology.

In 2005, the U.S. Department of Agriculture labeled malnourished people as having "food insecurity" In 2006, the new fad is to refer to the less fortunate as "very low food security". Howabout instead of a more sincere sounding terms to describe those who are malnourished, we focus on funding programs and research to create viable solution to this horrific problem.

In a country that seems to have unlimitless funds for such ventures as war, space, and science, there is no excuss why one American citizen should go hungry. No matter what terminology the U.S. Department of Agriculture conjours up, 11 million Americans are still without food.

High School Drop Out Rate Reaches Epidemic Levels

A recent study by the Department of Education found that 31 percent of American students were dropping out or failing to graduate in the nation's largest 100 public school districts. In some cities, half of all students are dropping out. 2,500 children drop out of public school a day.

John Kerry seeking an 2008 bid for the Whitehouse

On Fox News Sunday, John Kerry said he is still considering running for the presidency in 2008. However, without a strong determination and strategy this bid could be up in the wind. If John Kerry runs for the presidency in 2008, with his chances of winning marginal at best, then the democratic party will loose all hope winning he whitehouse. The best think Kerry can do for the democratic party is step aside. A presidential candidate should be someone who does not take chances with jokes or view. If it is possible, in the most remote way, that a joke might be misunderstood, then don't tell it. John Kerry's botched joke could case him great dismay in 2008, therefore, he should bow out gracefully without hurting the othe viable candidates.

    It's Just a Game

Yesterday, I heard a story of someone being robbed and shot while waiting in line for a Sony Playstation 3. People, it's just a gaming system. Nobody has to die. If you are over thirty years old, and have the time to wait hours in line for a gaming system, then I would seriously consider seeking professional help. I wished I had your schedule, where I could take off several hours from work and the rest of the world and wait in line. But, alas, I am not that fortunate.

    A Word about Rejection

I am only a mere mortal, and the fear of eminant rejection causes the heart to shudder at its core.

Rejection is hard to explain, it can come from anywhere or anyone.

The most devilish form of rejection takes the form of hubris; the superficial cascade down a persons dermis.

In one hundred years, your person will be gone, rejected.

What will I be doing? I will be searching my minds eye for serenity.
